Currently, they have to truck their copper long distances; the new rail link will pass within reachable distance of their operations in the North-Western Province.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Barrick Gold (Lumwana Mine):<\/b> Barrick is currently undergoing a <b data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"63\">$2 billion expansion<\/b> of Lumwana to transform it into a &#8220;super-pit.&#8221; They are a primary advocate for this rail line to move their massive increase in output.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">KoBold Metals (Mingomba Deposit):<\/b> Backed by Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, KoBold is using AI to develop what could be the highest-grade copper mine in Zambia. They have explicitly cited the Lobito Corridor as a key factor in their logistics planning.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"15\"><\/h3>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"15\">Who is Building it?<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\">The <b data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"4\">Africa Finance Corporation (AFC)<\/b> was appointed as the lead developer in late 2024.
