Because even if we might all use a little break, there are times when it is simply not feasible to go. Travel just isn’t always an option, whether you have time constraints, financial constraints, or both.

You are not required to leave your home in order to benefit from the refreshment and renewal that travel brings.
Need some ideas for a solo weekend “away”? Not sure what to do during a staycation?

This guide can help you!

The ideal weekend schedule for entertaining stay-at-home activities is provided in the following paragraphs, along with some original staycation advice.

WHAT IS A STAYCATION?

A “staycation” refers to traveling without leaving home.

While some people prefer to do their staycation at a local hotel, others staycation right in their house or apartment. The latter is what we’ll be focusing on in this post.

1. DETERMINE A “DESTINATION” FOR YOUR STAYCATION AND BRING IN SOME ON-THEME DECOR

Do you want to know how to have a vacation at home?

The environment is where it all begins!

Perhaps you’re daydreaming about a tropical vacation on a remote beach, or perhaps a weekend at a ski lodge in the winter sounds more appealing.

While you might not be able to visit those places in person, you can create an indoor version of your ideal spot with a little ingenuity.

Bring some tropical plants and flowers inside for a staycation with an island theme, or use your coziest blankets and candles for a winter lodge atmosphere.

Make a slideshow of images from your chosen vacation spot, then play it on your computer or television all weekend long.

The theme you choose will also help guide your menu and activity planning for the rest of the weekend.

Of course, you can always choose the theme of “Around The World In 3 Days” and mix things up with meals, activities, and decor inspired by different global destinations and cultures.

2. DO ALL OF YOUR SHOPPING AHEAD OF TIME

Plan your meals and activities for the weekend before it starts, and develop a list of everything you’ll need to enjoy a true staycation.

If you need to make any new purchases, do so before your vacation starts.

You don’t want to have to run to the shop on the weekend to pick up a necessary component for a cocktail!

3. GIVE YOUR BEDROOM THE FIVE-STAR TREATMENT

A setting that is dedicated to self-care is always a part of the best staycation.

Even if you’ve been sleeping in the same place for years, a few tiny adjustments can still make it seem luxurious.

Change your sheets and give your room a thorough cleaning to get the weekend off to a good start.

Spray some enticingly scented pillow mist on a silk pillowcase before placing it on your head.

Here is another item to add to the list.

You could treat yourself to some turn-down service and put some little chocolates on your pillows, but remember to consume them or remove them from the bed before you go to sleep. Alternatively, you could use YouTube to learn how to fold a towel animal fit for a cruise ship!

4. PREPARE AN ELABORATE DINNER USING THE CUISINE OF YOUR “DESTINATION”

Learning more about other countries cuisines and taking some of those new flavors back with you is one of the best things about traveling.

You can probably find a recipe for the local specialty online and make something restaurant-quality while on vacation at home while learning a new skill.

5. THE BEST STAYCATIONS ALWAYS INCLUDE A SPA DAY

The goal of your staycation Day is to indulge yourself, and the best way to do this is with a few quick at-home spa treatments.

Start the day with a glass of fruit-infused spa water; extra points if you can make a full pitcher to enjoy throughout the day.

After that, give your skin a great facial.  Try to buy some spa facial masks in advance.
Give your feet some attention since a quiet weekend at home wouldn’t be complete without an at-home pedicure.

Put some salts and aromatic oils on your feet, rub them with a soothing lotion, and paint your toenails a light shade.

We frequently fail to take care of our feet, which are among our bodies’ hardest-working organs, when it comes to self-care. Take the time during your staycation to give them the care they deserve.

Of course, no spa day would be complete without a relaxing bath and a good book. Add some Epsom salts or shower gel for a calming bubble bath, then unwind while listening to spa-appropriate music. You can rely on Spotify’s playlists.

Lacking a bathtub?
Taking a lengthy, hot shower while using shower bombs or essential oils will make you feel rested and rejuvenated.

5. ENJOY A DELICIOUS BREAKFAST IN BED

Is there a service that compares to room service?

You can still cook yourself a resort-level breakfast at home even if you don’t have a hotel staff to bring waffles right to your bedside.

Your favorite breakfast can be prepared at home or delivered, then set out on a tray fit for Instagram (don’t forget the flowers!) and enjoyed from the comfort of your bed.

6. BINGE READ THAT BOOK THAT’S BEEN SITTING ON YOUR SHELF

One of the best solo staycation ideas is to indulge in a reading binge by the beach, pool, or patio.

Set your phone to “Do Not Disturb,” prepare your favorite drink, and lose yourself for a few afternoon hours in a good book. You could even enhance the experience by choosing a book set in the place you want to go.

7. ORDER A MEAL FROM A LOCAL RESTAURANT YOU’VE NEVER TRIED BEFORE

One of the best aspects of traveling is eating at local restaurants and experiencing the local food.

One of the perfect times to check out some neighborhood restaurants you’ve been meaning to visit and gain a new cuisine perspective on your city is during a staycation.
Look into a new restaurant and see if they provide delivery, possibly one that specialized in the cuisine of your preferred vacation spot.

Give your table a restaurant-style setting before your food comes, maybe even break out that tablecloth you never use, pour yourself a drink, and turn on some relaxing music to enjoy the whole dining-out experience while you’re at home.
