South Africa is a country filled with opportunity, breathtaking surroundings, fascinating people, and cultures. It’s not so much different from my home country Namibia. I moved to South Africa in 2016 and it became my home away from home for me. There are so many things I’ve fallen in love with over the years about South Africa. Here are a few of those things.

1. Natural Beauty of South Africa

South Africa is beautiful, it’s just stunning. There is so much to explore and discover in this country. Every part of South Africa is beautiful in its own right. You get the beaches, Safari, breathtaking nature, mountains and so many more. Everything is just so unique and it’s a country that’s a one-stop for everything. It caters to every type of individual.

It’s an adventurous country, everything is within the country. They have so many attractions you can visit. Each province gives you a different part of South Africa.

2. South African Music

South Africans are talented individuals. They are definitely gifted with the most amazing voices I’ve come across in my life. It really doesn’t matter what type of music they sing because they excel in each and every one of them. Their artist always goes international because of how good they are. I enjoy their gospel music so much, it just touches me. Listening to their music just puts a smile on my face every time.

3. Foreigners in South Africa

Whatever African country you can think of, I assure you that you will find their citizens in South Africa even if it’s just one. When they say South Africa is diverse, it really is. South Africa is like a mini Africa, you get to meet so many different people and learn so much about their countries and cultures without having to travel to those individual countries. I’ve made so many foreign friends while in South Africa.

4. South African Culture

South Africans love and celebrate their traditions and cultures so much. They are really intact with their roots. Unlike most African countries they are not influenced by the west when it comes to their culture. They take so much pride in their traditions and I love it about them. They truly know their identity and wear it proudly. South Africans have a rich culture and the love and respect they have for it is something passed on from one generation to another.

The very first time I arrived in South Africa, I constantly got asked about the meaning of my name. It was so new to me because back home we really don’t focus on the meaning or just don’t see the significance of it. This prompted me to find out the meaning of my name, which means enduring love. But not only did I get the meaning but I started getting a sense of appreciation for my own culture. South Africans give you that feeling for you to love your culture and identity unapologetically.

5. South African People

South African people are not the most friendly or approachable people you will find but once you get close to them and form relationships with them, you get to see the most loving and caring people. South Africans are the most resilient people I know. You can see this mostly in their protesting, They know what they want and fight for it every single time and the way they just unite and stand for one thing is amazing, other African countries should learn from this. South Africans make sure that their kids can speak and write their native languages. Most South Africans can speak more than 3 South African languages unlike us in Namibia. No one wants to learn the language of the other.
