What to Expect from the Technology Innovation Agency at Mining Indaba 2026

As we prepare to head to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) for Mining Indaba 2026 (09-12 February), the theme “Stronger together: Progress through partnerships” sets a bold stage. While the industry faces hurdles like rising costs and safety concerns, the focus this year is shifting toward how Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) can secure a sustainable future.

At Xeroltha Media, we are particularly interested in the role of the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA). With over R100 million invested in mining-related technologies over the last decade, TIA is proving that African-led innovation is ready for the global stage.

Innovation Spotlights to Watch

During the Indaba, we will be getting a closer look at several market-ready technologies that TIA is profiling, including:

  • Real-Time Productivity: The Smart Sensor Process Advisory Dashboard by Stone Three Digital, which focuses on enhancing safety and energy efficiency.
  • Sustainable Water Solutions: Circular economy projects like the KNEW™ Process, which converts mine water into potable water and plant nutrition.
  • Safety Through Tech: Remote-operated equipment from CMTI is designed to unlock reserves in areas previously too dangerous for human miners.

Join the Conversation

I’ll be on the ground attending the keynote panel on Tuesday, 10 February, featuring Daya Naidoo, TIA’s Head for Energy and Natural Resources. We will be discussing how collaborative partnerships are modernizing the mining ecosystem to make it more competitive and sustainable.

Stay tuned to xeroltha.com for exclusive interviews with TIA leadership and deep dives into the technologies shaping the “Just Transition” and Africa’s net-zero ambitions.
