The Different Routes to Sossusvlei:


1. From Windhoek

It takes four to five hours to drive to Sossusvlei from Windhoek on the D1261 road.


2. From Swakopmund or Walvis Bay

It takes five to six hours to drive from Swakopmund on the B2, C19, M36, C4 and D826 roads. You will get to pass by the Tropic of Capricorn sign and Solitaire.

Solitaire sits just below the Tropic of Capricorn at the center of the 45 000 Arce Solitaire land Trust which is dedicated to preserving the grassland ecosystem and the wild animals that reside there.
It’s a cute town with less than 100 inhabitants. It’s so calm and peaceful in the middle of the Namibian desert.

3. From Mariental

It takes four to five hours to drive from Mariental on the C19 road.


4. From Luderitz or Aus

It’s a six hour drive from Luderitz and five hours drive from Aus. You will take the B4 from Luderitz, then C13 at Aus and finally the C27 road.


5. From Sesriem

It’s a 40 minute drive to Dune 45 and another 12 minutes to the parking of Sossusvlei and extra 10 minutes for the parking of Deadvlei.



What form of transportation to use?

You should use your own transportation to get to Sossusvlei, it’s the best option. You can choose to have a driver or do self-driving.


What car to use?

You need a 4×4 to go to Deadvlei and Big Daddy. You don’t need one for Dune 45. It’s best to rent a 4×4 from the get go.
