The Zambezi Region was previously known as the Caprivi strip, it was named after the German chancellor, Leo von Caprivi. The Caprivi strip also has a quadripoint which is a point that touches the border of four distinct territories. Also known as the “four corners of Africa.” Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe all meet at the eastern end of the Caprivi Strip. The Caprivi Strip is 280 miles long.

There are so many things to do in the Zambezi Region, here are just a few things you should have on your itinerary when visiting the region.

Things to do in Zambezi Region: 

You can do Safaris, Boat cruises, Village walks, and Fishing while in the region. There is something for everyone.

Places to visit in the Zambezi Region: 

1. Bwabwata National Park

A part of this national park is named Kwando Core area and it has a variety of wild animals and exceptional views you will enjoy. They offer game drives.

Animals to see – Elephant, buffalo, crocodile, hippo, African wild dog, lechwe, sitatunga, and reedbuck.

2. Mafwe Living Museum 

This is an actual open Museum where Travelers can discover a lot about the Mafwe people’s traditional culture and way of life. With tremendous dedication, the Mafwe describe and exhibit their customs, and a guide translates into English.

3. Nkasa Rupora  National Park

This park was formerly known as the Mamili National Park and is one of the smaller game parks in Namibia.

Animals to see – Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard, Crocodile, Hippo, a lot of rare antelope species, and 400 bird species.

4. Mahango Game Reserve

This is another part of the Bwabwata National Park on the western side.

Animals to see –  Elephant, buffalo, common reedbuck, red lechwe, zebra, giraffe, crocodile, and hippo.

5. Popa Falls National Park

This is the smallest game park with a variety of over 400 bird species.

Animals to see –  Crocodile, Hippo, Vervet Monkey, Broad-head catfish, and Oscillated Spiny Eel. The 417 bird species recorded here include Slaty Egret, Saddle-billed Stork, Bat Hawk, Western Banded Snake-Eagle, Collared Pratincole, and Heuglin’s Robin.

6. Mudumu National Park

It is known for its unusual landscapes in Namibia: rivers, reed islands, and flat areas without any natural elevation.

Animals to see –  Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard, Crocodile, Hippo, a lot of rare antelope species, and 400 bird species.

7. Katima Mulilo

This is the border town to Zambia and the regional capital of Caprivi or Zambezi Region. The town has a lot of interesting history you can study. If you are planning on visiting Victoria falls, this could be your starting point as well.
